In October 1997 I was invited to join the Greek Rotary District Governor visiting Bulgaria. Among several places we went to a town on the, not so blue, Danube called Rousse. The local Rotarians took us to see three Orphanages and I was moved to tears. There were hundreds of children from birth to teenage, poorly dressed, badly fed and with little hope for the future.I determined to do something. Back in Greece, Mike and I left some money with the local Rotarians to open a fund for immediate food aid.

This could only be a start. In England I started a collection of clothes, shoes, bedding and toys. Inner Wheelers, Rotarians, family, friends and local Supermarkets were all co-opted. Our little dining room began to fill.
